favorite bedstuy/clinton hill/fort greene establishments

  • Clementine Bakery (sweet little vegan treats, just have to make sure you get there early in the day because they usually run out of all the good stuff by 3 or 4 [I blame small children])
  • Speedy Romeo (share a root beer, roasted potatoes with speedy sauce, [the godly neopolitan margharita with olives for N {E doesn't like olives}, a killing kale pesto for E])
  • Elly's Market (shoutout to Oreo the bodega cat, a dignified old gentleman) (open late, hence the perfect place to make a mad-dash [while the garlic and onion sauté] for a tomato can because we always run out of tomato cans)
  • Luanne's Wild Ginger (vegan pho, a perfect warm fall meal)
  • A.T.M. Vegan Deli (the “C.B.N.” for N [E always makes fun and pretends it’s the “R.B.N”], the “V.E.G.” for E)

favorite greenpoint establishments

  • ACRE (these guys are locked in... heavenly bento boxes [pork katsu for N and vegetable balls for E] with wild rice and yuzu dressing salad, complete with a beautifully constructed space, japanese goods sold up front, so full of life)
  • Tula House (nice little plant nursery, gave us good advice on how to take care of peggy [poor peggy, she's so high-maintenance], also where we adopted Clarence, they sell bug-out spray in a glass bottle with $5 refills)

favorite bushwick establishments

  • Wyckoff Starr Coffee (killer bagels, Twin Peaks theme is fun and distinctive [despite conflicted David Lynch feelings], it was the place to go when a certain roommate used up all the coffee grounds because he drank 3+ cups a day)
  • Molasses Books (one of those bookstore-cafe-bars with a french salon-esque atmosphere, I used to take my giant William James collection in the evenings and read it at the bar [admittedly E doesn’t like because of minimal seating and sometimes bugs])
  • Yia Yia’s Taverna (the most delicious and rich greek fare, the place to gather with roommates to feast on mediterranean delicacies and warm oneself with sips of greek beer [no table cloths, hence not fancy per S’s criteria, but I disagree])
  • Taqueria Al Pastor (small but very tasty portions; S thinks I should have tried the Al Pastor because it’s in the name after all but what does he know)
  • Blue Collar Burgers (OK look it’s nothing special, just typical fast food fare with a Bush-Whacker yuppie mark-up but it hits the spot on a rainy night)
