The available options are hardcoded because the most popular necessities for everyone’s lives are the same: curl cream, ginger ale, earbuds, Smokehouse Almonds, and cat food.
i’m somewhere in Illinois on the last amtrak from Chicago to st. louis before a snow storm shuts down the line. i love the train, sort of because i can’t drive, but mostly because i really like to listen to like a hundred genres in one playlist and look out the window. i love the midwest, the middle, i’m a middle child, i generally end up in-between things.
the bridge between description and calculation is like a slime. the translation table, isomorphism, information preserving transformation between two systems. in real life, we subconsciously manage when to define and bound and categorize when to just live indescribably. Against the “the modern desire to externalize the mind”, where what is hidden in an individuals mind becomes shared, love your not-knowing. communication is not the ultimate form (sharing a pie with bae is).

platform studies:
- “investigate the relationships between platforms—the hardware and software design of standardized computing systems—and influential creative works that have been produced on those platforms.”
- “To deal deeply with platforms and digital media, however, any study of this sort must be technically rigorous. The detailed analysis of hardware and code connects to the experience of developers who created software for a platform and users who interacted with and will interact with programs on that platform. Only the serious investigation of computing systems as specific machines can reveal the relationships between these systems and creativity, design, expression, and culture.”
- borrowing from Freire’s Pedagogy of the Oppressed, we can understand the current state of technology as dehumanizing (**********)
- the first step with which we users and players can regain our digital humanity is acquiring knowledge about the concept of digital humanization itself
on this statistically significant “blue monday,” thinking about ella johnson, she must’ve been quietly on everyone’s minds at mark’s last night, between mario super sluggers, parasitic worms, and if you would elect to swallow eggs to be in a study about parasitic worms. it killed liz to be mute. her throat was so sore. i wanted to feel united in quietness with her but she really didn’t want to be there, and was still clawing at any way to speak. i smoked everyone in wario’s goldmine but choked on the shortcut into 4th place. i didn’t even know it was there until i was on it. i had another dream about running, hiding, searching for something in an impossibly huge house. awe and fear like real life house of leaves, endless, genuine secret doors, hidden areas, loops. i keep thinking about that “most challenging puzzle” book Maze, about what it says about interpretation. i feel like i am a normal Redditor, and everyone else is the Maze forum people. Normal Redditors say the maze is arbitrary and poorly designed, that it is unfair that some clues can’t be trusted. The Maze forum people somehow know that if a door doesn’t have any clues pointing to it, it is in fact this door that is the right answer.
flowing water imagery: “The dynamic flow of water is made emblematic of the Bolsheviks' own unceasing application, and symbolic of the magical, transformative power of electricity itself, of Lenin its patron and of revolution. This points to the importance of water imagery in Vertov's work as a whole. As early as Cine-Eye he had shown Pioneers marching over a dam, allowing the camera to linger on the water rushing under it, and likewise showing them washing. Similarly, in Man with a Movie Camera washing serves as a crucial metaphor for renewal and transformation. The building of a hydroelectric dam represents an economic transformation enabling electricity, the energy of Lenin, to revolutionise the Soviet Union, but it is also a symbol of a deeper, elemental renewal.”

this guy said im very funny and sarah agreed with him. he said i made him miss being in undergrad. “phd students aren’t funny”. the debate afterwards was great too i really feel like i know what im talking about. but so much to read and learn still. joe commended me for defending computer science after another undergrad kept making this point that it inherently isn’t built for the humanities, that literature is inherently more complex and this shimmering golden untouchable light, that even since the beginning the internet was built solely to make things more efficient and orderly. i said i dont think thats true at all. the internet was a raucus thing that grew by breaking itself and patching its cracks.
i had a dream you were my brothers music teacher and i was shadowing the class and you led us though a bunch of games like singing animal noises and we made lots of eye contact

Laws and rules
- The Road Runner cannot harm the Coyote except by going 'Beep-Beep!'
- No outside force can harm the Coyote — only his own ineptitude or the failure of the Acme products.
- The Coyote could stop anytime — if he were not a fanatic. ('A fanatic is one who redoubles his effort when he has forgotten his aim.')
- No dialogue ever, except 'Beep-Beep!'
- The Road Runner must stay on the road — otherwise, logically, he would not be called a Road Runner.
- All action must be confined to the natural environment of the two characters — the southwest American desert.
- All materials, tools, weapons, or mechanical conveniences, must be obtained from the Acme Corporation.
- Whenever possible, make gravity the Coyote's greatest enemy.
- The Coyote is always more humiliated than harmed by his failures.
music
- Roadrunner (Once) / Jonathan Richman & The Modern Lovers
- Richman wrote the song by 1970, when he began performing it in public, aged 19.
- Former bandmate John Felice recalled that as teenagers he and Richman "used to
- get in the car and just drive up and down Route 128 and the Turnpike.
- We'd come up over a hill and he’d see the radio towers, the beacons flashing,
- and he would get almost teary-eyed."
- Break Free (feat. Zedd) / Ariana Grande
